A song written and recorded on Remembrance Day a couple of years ago. Obviously I'd been having a bad day, filtered through the Velvets/ Mary Chain who I'd been listening to a lota at this time.
Words just a stream of conscious thing really, not too deep. Music all from the patches on MRS8 all recorded direct to the machine. Mixed on headphones, that's why the drums are so low in the mix I think.
The Words:
Play me a sad song
Cos thats what I want
But I don't understand how holding your hand
Is going to help you out
I want a sad song but just dont make it long
cos the way that you play
Makes the skin and the veins
Want to change their place
My sound goes round and round
It's lost and and then its found
Like a train on a track that's not coming back
I can't be found
Play me a sad song
Cos thats what I want
But I don't understand how holding your hand
Is going to help you out
I want a sad song but just dont make it long
cos the way that you play
Makes the skin and the veins
Want to change their place
Play me a sad song

This Old Guitar
A very new song, only recorded today. Written a couple of weeks ago whilst I was in my country mode. Not a lot to say about this one really, it speaks for itself. Just a basic 3 chord stum ( a pattern emerging there then).
The Words:
This old guitar won't get me far
but it's good enough for me
It won't make my name it won't bring me fame
but fame is overrated you see
I can't play it well as you can tell
the action's high and the strings need a change
It didn't cost a lot I paid what I'd got
And carried it home in the rain
I play it every day to while the hours away
and sometimes it gives up a song
some songs are sad some songs are bad
And it helped me to write this one
This old guitar won't make me a star
but I don't want that anyway
I just want to play a little bit each day
on this old guitar

The Last Yuppie In Town
Ok, the first song to go up here, one of the first I recorded, on both the portastudio and the Zoom PS04. The last Yuppie In Town was written after I got the Telecaster copy, in around 2003/4. At the time I remember it being written very quickly, it is after all, only 3 chords. I has the idea for what became the solo quite early on as well.
The song is only 3 verses long, each dealing with a different character. The first, the yuppie a failure sitting in the cafe, waiting for his phone call that never arrives. Then he gets on the bus to his mother. Was he ever a real yuppie, or was it in his head?
The second verse, the gangster, a hardman or is he? Telling tales of knowing villians to anyone who will listen. All the while nervous if any aggro takes place in the pub, ready to make a quick getaway.
Verse three, the most telling of all, the rock and roller. Playing alone, night after night, which amateur musician hasn't gone through the mirror moment dreaming of making it?
The music is just an acoustic strum, an electric lead part and the bass and drums from the PS04 that I used at the time. The final bars of the song, where the drums go a bit off, was a mistake but I liked how it sounded and kept it in.
There is another portastudio version of this which I have yet to find. When I do it will go up here .....eventually.

The Last Yuppie In Town
Sitting in the cafe tonight waiting for the phone to ring
Filofax is by his side he's thought of everything
And when the phonecall dosn't come he's on the bus home to his mum
It's hard not to feel a little down when you're the last yuppie in town
Drinking in the pub alone drinking halves to make em last
He says he once knew Reggie Kray but those days are in the past
and when a fight breaks out in the bar he's running to his Jaguar
He's gone putting his foot down he's the last gangster in town
Sitting in his bedroom alone playing on his guitar
He wanted to be a Rolling Stone but he never got that far
Now he wonders what his life all means as he sits in front of the mirror playing Cream
In his head he can hear the drums pound he's the last rock n roller in town.

Welcome
As the title says, welcome dear reader. When I say dear reader I am probably just talking (writing?) to myself anyway. This is the place I intend to post my original songs along with lyrics and stories about the writing of the songs.
Why?
Why indeed, I just want to put them all somewhere really, and have a record of them somewhere other than my own laptop. Also I will be posting Random Thoughts on whatever is on my mind from time to time. I don't know how long this will go on for, maybe this will be the first and last post, let's see shall we?
So, once again welcome to this Blog/journal, I hope you ,(I) enjoy it.
